Neighborhood happy hour

“Dry January” has officially ended! Come out for our first monthly neighborhood happy hour. Your neighbors will be at The Starting Lineup, 213 Penn Street, on Friday, February 6, starting at 5:30 pm. Everyone is welcome! These happy hours are always a great way to meet new people.

Community garden

Help us build a Ridgely’s community garden! Got a green thumb (or just want one)? Our kickoff meeting will be on Sunday, January 25 from 11 — 12 pm, in the open lot at the corner of Washington Blvd. and Martin Luther King. We will be discussing the kind of garden and green space we want to see, ordering materials for raised beds, composter, etc. with the goal to set up by March as the growing season begins! If you can’t make it but wish to get involved, email celine.brundridge@gmail.com

Winter restaurant week

It’s time once again for the Baltimore Restaurant Week. For one week only, January 23 through February 1, enjoy discounted breakfast, lunch and dinner menus, plus carry-out specials, from top Charm City eateries. Visit baltimorestaurantweek.com for a list of participating restaurants. Bon appetit!

Baltimore Crankie Festival

If you want something unique and very “Baltimore,” this is it. Crankies are long, hand-illustrated scrolls that are “cranked" across a lighted box while a story or song is performed. This event features artists from Baltimore and beyond showcasing their hand-cranked scrolling panoramas accompanied by live music and storytelling. The festival runs from February 6–8 at the Creative Alliance in Highlandtown. More information.

CIAA basketball tournament

The CIAA is back in Baltimore! Beyond the high-stakes basketball, look out for the Fan Fest at the Convention Center, featuring live music, celebrity appearances, and the famous Step Show “Throwdown.” All this happens in late February at CFG Bank Arena and the Baltimore Convention Center. More information.

Black History Month Parade

This is the 100th anniversary of Black History Month celebrations nationwide, and Baltimore is going all out. Celebrate a century of African-American history and culture at the city’s annual parade on Monday, February 16 (Presidents’ Day), starting at 12 pm, on Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, from Eutaw Street to Baltimore Street. It’s a great way to spend the holiday and support local marching bands, dance troupes, and community leaders.
