Ridgely's Record
December 2003

Board Meeting
There will be no community meeting this month. However, there will be a board meeting on Wednesday, December 3 at 7:00 p.m. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE LOCATION HAS BEEN CHANGED TO SLIDERS, 2ND FLOOR. Board meetings are open to the public.

Holiday Party
The annual holiday party will take place on Wednesday, December 10 at Sliders Bar and Grille, beginning at 7:00. Once again, we will have a pot luck dinner and cash bar. If you don't like to cook, you can bring chips, bread, cheese and crackers, etc. If you prefer, you can make a cash donation to a platter we will buy from Sliders. Please call Susan at 410-837-1115 or Joanne at 410-727-8060 to advise what you are bringing. You can also send e-mail to jdrummond@ridgelysdelight.org.

This year we will collect toiletries for a women's shelter. Please bring along some extra soap, shampoo, feminine products or other items (no hotel-size please) for those in need.

Benefit at Patrick's
Head over to Patrick's of Pratt Street across from the B&O Railroad Museum on Friday, December 5 for happy hour. All proceeds from 5:00-7:00 drink sales will be donated to local food banks.

City-Smart Safety Tip
Going home for the holidays? Cancel your newspaper or have a neighbor pick it up. Piled up papers are an invitation to burglars. Give your home the lived-in look by setting your lights on a timer.

Downtown Dollar or Less Days
Enjoy a holiday treat as many of Baltimore's favorite attractions offer
admission for $1 or less. For the list of participating attractions and
hours, click here.

Holiday Shopping
Looking for a unique gift for that special someone? There's no need to
leave the neighborhood. Visit the gift shop at the Babe Ruth Museum for a
variety of Orioles and baseball-related goodies.

Tot Lot: a Toilet It's Not
In September dozens of volunteers from Ridgely's Delight and other neighborhoods, supported by Streuver Brothers, Eccles and Rouse, Inc.,spent a day cleaning, repairing and planting in the tot lot at Melvin Drive and Penn Street.

Unfortunately, some of our neighbors continue to walk their dogs in the tot lot. Some do not even clean up after their pets. Please note that the tot lot is off limits to dogs, as the sign says. Please walk your dog in the numerous other green spaces throughout the community. Wherever owners choose to walk their pets, the law states that they must clean up afterwards.

The tot lot is scheduled for a major upgrade by the City next year. Please help it to become an even greater asset to the community by keeping your pets out of this area.

Crime and Safety Committee
The Ridgely's Delight Association has established a new Crime and Safety Committee. If you would like to participate, please contact Betsy at bbrininger@handelchoir.org

Leaf Collection 2003
Baltimore city leaf collection began on Thursday, October 2, 2003. City sanitation crews will pick up bagged leaves on the second trash collection day for Baltimore city residents (Friday for Ridgely's Residents). Just put out securely bagged leaves with your regular trash on Friday mornings. These collections will continue through January 31, 2004. In 2002, citizens helped the city recycle 10,250 tons of leaves! These leaves were mulched and given back to communities for free use in parks and community gardens.

Renovating?

Suspect Apprehended
You may have recently received a flier with the photo of a suspect who was wanted for armed robbery. We are happy to report that the suspect was arrested in November by a University policeman.
