Ridgely's Record
November 2003

Community Meeting
There will be a public community meeting this month at Camden Pub on November 5th at 7:00. Safety issues will be discussed. In addition, we will have a vote for 2004 Board.

No Trash Pick-up in November 11
Due to the City holiday (Veteran's day), there will be no trash pick-up on Tuesday, November 11. Sop lease don't put your trash out for pick-up on that day.

Bi-annual Clean-up
Thank you to all the folks who came by to help clean up the neighborhood. We spent all morning cleaning and clearing. A special thanks to Matt Brinker, for without his tools, we would still be working today! The city apologizes profusely for dropping off a dumpster late.

Thanks for the Party
Congratulations to William for planning, funding and managing a block party at the tot lot last month. It was a lot of fun and everybody had a great time. Thanks!

Trash Notes
UNSIGHTLY SIDEWALKS--Many residents are leaving their trash cans on the sidewalk for days after collection, and/or putting out trash on the wrong days. These actions are violations of City law and subject to fines by the Office of Sanitation Enforcement. Avoid the expense and help keep the neighborhood looking good.
REPORTING VIOLATIONS--Anyone can report trash, or any other, problems by calling 311. Just give the operator the location, and you will be given a confirmation number so you can call back if the situation is not taken care of in a timely manner.

Photos Online
The photos on the Ridgely's Delight website are especially groovy. Check out em' out. Photos of our mayor abound.

Results from New WestEd Study
Students who are less engaged in risky behaviors like substance abuse or exposure to violence, who eat nutritious foods, exercise, and have caring relationships and high expectations from adults, make greater progress in raising school test scores. Effective school policies should also address these health and developmental needs of students. For more information: www.wested.org/cs/wew/view/rs_press/22.

Holiday Party
This year we are having our holiday party on December 10th. The party's at Sliders, 504 Washington Boulevard and starts at 7:00 p.m. It's a pot luck dinner with cash bar. Please call Joanne at 410-727-8060 or Susan at 410-837-1115 by December 3 to advise what you are bringing. You can also send e-mail to jdrummond@ridgelysdelight.org. If your skills in the kitchen are limited, you can sign up for cheese and crackers, chips, breads, etc. Or you can make a donation toward a platter we will order from Sliders. This party is always a rootin' tootin' good time.

Leaf Collection 2003
Baltimore city leaf collection began on Thursday, October 2, 2003. City sanitation crews will pick up bagged leaves on the second trash collection day for Baltimore city residents (Friday for Ridgely's Residents). Just put out securely bagged leaves with your regular trash on Friday mornings. These collections will continue through January 31, 2004. In 2002, citizens helped the city recycle 10,250 tons of leaves! These leaves were mulched and given back to communities for free use in parks and community gardens.

City Smart Safety Tip
You already know this, but a gentle reminder none-the-less. Don't leave valuables in your car. Better yet, don't leave anything in your car. At the very least, keep stuff out of plain sight. An empty bag of chips, socks (out-of-the-bag or soiled), you name it - they'll break into your car for ANYTHING. The criminals need to know: "We got nothing. Move along. Try the next neighborhood. Better yet, try the county, another state, planet Zoom. Just stay away".
