Ridgely's Record
October 2003

Community Meeting
There will be a community board meeting this month at Camden Pub on October 1 at 7:00. The meeting is open to the public.

Block Party
Residents of Ridgely's Delight are invited to attend our Neighborhood Gathering/Community Block Party on Saturday, 11 October 2003 from 12:00pm to 6:30pm. The party will be held under permit at the neighborhood park/playground on the corner of Melvin and Penn Streets, recently upgraded and cleaned by neighborhood volunteers. This is a great opportunity to get to know your neighbors! There will be music, grilled hamburgers, hotdogs, veggie burgers, and beverages. Please bring pot-luck fare such as chips, your favorite casserole, desserts, and the like to share with your neighbors! The party is a community-sanctioned event.

The Babe Ruth Party!
Thank you everyone in the Babe Ruth planning committee for making this party a reality. Most importantly, thank you to the 100 people who bought a ticket and realized a party when they saw one. To see some great pictures of the party, click on photo album.

Household Hazardous Waste
October 25th and October 26th will be the City's day for hazardous waste drop-off. For more information about locations and restrictions, call 311.

Primary Results
Keiffer J. Mitchell, Jr has attained the district 11 Democratic primary election. James C. Quigley has secured the district 11 Republican primary. The general election will be in 13 months.

Grant-writing Machine, Human Bulldozer
Mark James has secured phase II of the Parks and People grant to beautify the burgundy street lot. Phase II will replace the chain link fence with a nice wrought iron fence and a shed to keep community tools. More details to follow. Thanks, Mark.

Ravens Parking Procedures
Beginning on September 14, 2003 the Department of Transportation started taking a more aggressive approach towards removing vehicles that are illegally parked in restricted areas. The Department of Transportation has begun impounding vehicles at the Fallsway Impound lot instead of issuing parking citations and relocating vehicles to the vicinity of M&T Stadium. Motorists parked in violation will now be issued a $75 parking citation along with a $165 fine in towing and impoundment fees. Motorists with questions regarding the location of their vehicles can call 410-396-4613.

JR Day a Success!
A special thanks to everyone who came out to help spruce up the playground on September 20. We had 28 members of the community, including kids, partake in cleaning, planting, weeding and watering. We also want to thank Bill Struever from SBER, who recommended our neighborhood as a recipient of JR Day. SBER donated plants and materials. SBER employees donated time to replace the kids' tables and the benches in the playground. We are also slated to get new playground equipment from the City sometime in 2004. Check out photos from that day. And, one last word to dogowners: this playground is for kids, not dogs.

Bi-Annual Community Clean-Up
Our contribution to the Mayor Martin O'Malley 2003 Fall Clean up will take place on Saturday, October 11. We will meet behind the Mobil filling station at 9:30 and clean up the neighborhood. We will have gloves, rakes, bags and a dumpster available. If you care, come by and help out for a few hours. The cleanup is a community-sanctioned event.
