Ridgely's Record
September 2005

Community Meeting For September
There will be a community meeting this month Wed., Sept. 7th at 7pm upstairs at Camden Pub. All who live and work in the neighborhood are welcome. Please forward any agenda items to president@ridgelysdelight.org.

Yabba Pot Opens on Wash. Blvd.
Join us in welcoming a new business to the community! Yabba Pot Café and Juice Bar (sister location in Charles Village) is scheduled to open mid-Sept. at 771 Washington Blvd. A unique menu features vegetarian fare. Yabba Pot has already established itself as "the best bet for a cheap, hot vegetarian meal" (Baltimore City Paper).

Lost and Found
FOUND (from the National Night-out Picnic): a blue and green appetizer plate; a dinner plate, white with yellow flowers; a large grill spatula. If you would like to claim any of the items, call Brian, 410-752-8746.

First Friday Happy Hour
September's first Friday happy hour will be at Pickles Pub on Washington Blvd., Sept 2nd. Folks begin to arrive @ 6:30pm. Be sure to invite new neighbors and kick off the holiday weekend right!

Brother in the Bush Discussion Group
For those that have read, or plan to read, Ridgely's resident John Slaughter's book Brother in the Bush, there will be a discussion group Saturday, Sept. 10th at Ras Doobie de Chef's on Penn Street at 3:30pm est. Come for the discussion AND great food! For more information or to order the book visit www.brotherinthebush.com or stop by the Pooch for a copy.

Citizens on Patrol (COP) Grant Awarded
In Aug, Ridgley's received a grant of $2200 to improve safety in the community. The money will help equip the COP with radios and safety gear and purchase solar powered motion detector lights. Many of the lights have already been installed in darker areas of the neighborhood. The COP would like to expand. If you are interested in walking with your neighbors for a couple of hours a month or you want more information about COP call Brian at 410-752-8746 or email newsletter@ridgelysdelight.org.

Ridgely's Delight Dog Show
Save the date! Saturday Oct. 8th will be your dog's day to shine in the first annual Ridgely's dog show. Stay tuned for more details!

Revival of the Ridgley's Block Party
Ridgely's apartments will be hosting a block party on Sunday, Sept. 11 from noon to 6pm, on S. Fremont Street between Paca and Eislen Streets. Just follow the smell of the grill! Please bring a dish to share AND a school supply donation.

Calling All Dog Owners!
Owning a domestic animal is one of life's wonderful pleasures. Who else but a domestic animal will treat you like a rock star after leaving them home all day and starving them!?!?! To that end, please clean up after your animal especially if you are in front of your neighbor's house. Heck, there are even free bags available in the Conway dog park! It's more then just being polite…it's the law.

Pigtown Festival
The annual Pigtown Festival is on September 10th, from 11am to 4pm., behind the B&O museum on the 800 block of McHenry Street. Come out, have fun, and promote our neighborhood by helping man the Ridgely's Delight booth. Contact Bill at bill@reuter.net or 410 385-1213 if you'd like to volunteer.

It Takes a Village!
Just a friendly reminder that all of the activities for the neighborhood are organized, promoted and run completely by volunteers working to keep Ridgely's a fun and safe place to live. For these volunteers, it's a labor of love, but it's always nice to know it's appreciated…so next picnic, say thanks to the person on the grill or give a pat on the back to one of our fine Citizens on Patrollers in the orange vests! Join the fun. There's always room for help and new ideas. Contact newsletter@ridgelysdelight.org.

Renovating? Check with CHAP
If you are planning on making renovations or additions, please call Paul at 410-234-1350. Remember, all exterior changes require CHAP approval. To view the guidelines, visit: www.ridgelysdelight.org/history/chap.html.
