Ridgely's Record
September 2003

Community Meeting
There will be NO community meeting this month.

Volunteers Needed for JR Day - Sept 20
Struever Brothers Eccles and Rouse (SBER) celebrates James W. Rouse's
influence on the company and the community every year on JR Day where SBER
employees and their vendors donate time, materials, and money to various
community projects. JR, for those of you who don't know, invented wonderful
places like the inner harbor (later in his career) and Columbia, MD
(earlier in his career). This year Ridgely's Delight is lucky to be the
recipient of one of these projects ? a full-fledged makeover of the tot lot
on Melvin and Penn. Volunteers are needed to help with planting and other
assorted landscaping. The start time is 8:00 a.m. SBER will provide a
light breakfast and some lunch. Step up. Make Ridgely's groovier for the
kids.

311. The One Call to City Hall
To request city services, you can make a simple phone call to 311. However,
311 has gone online. Go to www.baltimorecity.gov and click on 311
services. You can report vacant houses, sanitary enforcement, lot
cleaning, structural deficiencies, dirty alley/street cleaning, bulk trash
pickup and any other service the city offers.

Vote at the September 9th Primary
Yo! Ridgely's residents! Get out there and vote. As you know, the primary
pretty much decides the whole thing, so do your part. This is an important
one.

Pigtown Festival - September 13
Experience the City behind Hairspray at the 2nd Annual Pigtown Festival,
held in the 800 block of McHenry Street behind the B&O Railroad Museum.
The festival will feature a "running of the pigs," food and drinks, arts
and crafts, live music, children's activities and the Pigtown Pageant. Noon
? 5 p.m. This year Ridgely's Delight, affectionately referred to as
Pigtown East by Washington Village/Pigtown residents, will have a booth at
the event. We are looking for volunteers to help man it. Please contact
Bill at 410-365-1213 if you're interested.

Visit Ridgely's Online
If you're new to the neighborhood and want to find out what's really going
on, visit www.ridgleysdelight.org. Here you can find out about everything
you need to know to live the high life in Ridgely's Delight, from parking
to pubs, from community association activities to contacts. You can even
find the newsletter online. The site is a work in progress, so check back
often for more updates.

Up, up, and Away
First there were Superman and Batman. Then there were Wolverine and Storm.
Now, there's Debbie Rhodes, Brian Dale, and Richard Gibson. Debbie's most
recent feat was planning the National Night Out party in early August,
which was a huge success. Brian, who collaborated with Debbie on the
party, is responsible for the Free Jazz Concert in the Conway Park.
Unfortunately, Mother Nature was singing the blues and the concert was
rained out. Nevertheless, more than 40 people showed up for the show.
Brian nearly exhausted all his super powers lobbying the city to get the
band to play in our park. Finally, Richard has exercised his horticultural
prowess at the new garden around the Ridgely's Delight sign on Russell St.
He has been successfully fending off weeds and litter in the area. Thanks
to all y'all. (Stay tuned, readers, for their secret, undercover,
superhero names).

Pardon Our Progress
The Connally sign building on Portland Street is finally breaking ground!
Mr. & Mrs. Jim and Jennifer Kuhl have moved into the community and are
quickly moving forward on this project. They are spending an obscene
amount of money to park a dumpster in front of their house. Please do not
place garbage here and please do not park in front of their driveway. Jim
encourages anybody that has a comment or suggestion to call him at home at
410.528.7214. Better yet, why not give them a call and say WELCOME TO
RIDGELYS DELIGHT!

Babe Ruth Partay!
September 6th at 5:00 at the MUSEUM. The response for the community Babe
Ruth Party has been a HOME RUN? pun intended. For a mere $7.00, you will
get entrance to the museum, all you can eat and drink, a ticket to Camden
Yards, door prizes, kids will receive souvenirs from the game and you can
meet your neighbors at an exciting event. If you purchased a ticket and
cannot attend or if you want to get on the wait list to purchase a ticket,
contact Paul Harris at 410.837.6321.
