Ridgely's Record
August 2003
National Night Out
Join the rest of America in the fight against drugs on Tuesday evening,
August 5. Turn on the light by your front door, lock the door and join
your neighbors as we take a stand against crime. In honor of this important
occasion, the Ridgely's Delight Association will sponsor a picnic in the
tot lot on Penn Street, beginning at 6:00 p.m. The Association will provide
beer and soda, and neighbors are asked to sign up for a pot luck barbeque.
Join your neighbors for a fun evening and pick up information on how you
can join the fight against crime and drugs. Please call Debbie at 410-837-0329
or Brian at 410-752-8746 to advise what you're bringing.
Free Concert with the Baltimore City Big Band
July 28, 8-10 pm
Bring a blanket or lawn chair and a picnic basket. Enjoy great music
under the stars, featuring today's Big Band sound with popular songs played
in a Jazz style, modern Jazz tunes and contemporary music with a rock
beat. A guest soloist will also perform. A big turnout by the community
could help make this an annual event.
Special thanks to Struever Bros. Eccles and Rouse, Inc. for their support.
No Community Meeting
There will be NO community meeting this month. Instead, we are having
a free concert and a party to recognize the National Night out. Please
come to the events and meet your neighbors.
Barre Circle Candidate's Night
There will be a panel discussion with announced candidates for our new
11th district on July 28, starting at 6:30pm at Porters Coffee House,
771 Washington Blvd, second floor. All nearby neighbors are invited to
hear the candidates and ask questions. Refreshments and light fare will
be provided after the discussion. Thanks to the recent referendum vote
to reorganize the city council into single member districts, the citizens
of Baltimore have a rare opportunity to establish a new form of city council.
Know your candidates and make your vote count.
Poop in the Parks
Dog owners play a very important part in our community. They are the unofficial
walking cop, they know the area, and they know their neighbors. However,
a few dog owners are not taking responsibility for their dogs and are
giving the rest of us a bad name. These streets and sidewalks are heavily
traveled and dog poop on the sidewalks is disgusting and irresponsible.
The playground at the corner of Melvin St. and Penn St. is NOT a dog park.
In fact, you are not allowed to take your dog into the park. You definitely
are not allowed to close the gates and let your dog run free. Don't let
other dog owners get the bad rap.
City Council Election Update
You may have heard that a handful of city council candidates missed their
financial disclosure date. Michael Seipp, running for our 11th district,
was given old forms with an incorrect submission date. Seipp, who is not
to blame for the late filing, will continue his run for office.
Welcome and Be Safe!
Welcome new residents to Ridgely's Delight. There is so much the community
board wants you to know, but we are going to withhold in order to build
suspense in hopes you will attend the free concert, National Night Out
and the Babe Ruth Party. One thing we can't keep quiet are a few simple
tips on fighting crime:
- Don't leave ANYTHING in your car. Desperate thieves will break your
window for change, CD's, sunglasses, stale crackers, garbage, clothes,
or a melted chocolate bar.
- Don't give money to panhandlers - they'll just come back forever.
We'll keep you posted on effective charities.
- Don't leave the empty box from your new Dell on the front porch. This
advertises that you have cool new stuff.
Ridgely's Delight is a great place to live and you're going to have fun.
But, we're a city neighborhood, and you gots to use some common sense.
The Babe Ruth Party!
For a mere $7.00, you will get entrance to the museum, all you can eat
and drink, a ticket to Camden Yards, door prizes, kids receive souvenirs
from the game and you can meet your neighbors at an exciting event. Mark
your calendar for September 6th at 5:00. Tickets must be purchased before
August 8th. To purchase a ticket, contact Brian Dale at 410-752-8746.
Tickets are going very fast. That night the Orioles are going to induct
Cal Ripkin, Jr. into the Baltimore Hall of Fame. If you have purchased
a ticket and you cannot attend or if you want to purchase a ticket and
the event is sold out, contact Paul Harris at 410-837-6321 for an efficient
transaction.
