July 2005

Baltimore City Big Band Comes To Ridgely's
The Baltimore City Big Band will hold a free concert on Wednesday, July 20th, in Conway Park, beginning at 6:30 PM. The Big Band will bring a guest soloist and feature popular songs played in a jazz style, modern jazz tunes and contemporary music with a rock beat. In short, there's something for everyone. Join your neighbors, and invite friends from outside the neighborhood, too. Bring a picnic snack if you like. The City even provides chairs for the event, which is part of Baltimore's Summer Concert Series. After two rainouts, the odds favor good weather this year!

No Community or Board Meeting in July

There is no community or Ridgely's board meeting scheduled for July. However, the folks at Camden Pub will no doubt welcome your visit the first or any Wednesday.

Ridgley's Holds Annual Picnic to Push Safety
On Tuesday, August 2nd, at 6:30 PM, the neighborhood will again participate in the National Night Out for Safety by holding a potluck picnic in Conway Park. We will be joined by members of the Baltimore City Police Department. This is a chance to meet new neighbors, enjoy great food, have fun and learn about living safely in the City. Call Debbie at 410-837-0228 or Brian at 410-752-8746 and let them know what food you will be bringing.

Ridgely's Delight Running Club
The Ridgely's running club continues to chase down new members. Runners meet three times a week-Tues. at 5pm, Wed. at 6pm and Sat. at 10am starting each run from the Pooch. If you are interested, send an e-mail to Matt at mh2181@yahoo.com.

First Friday Happy Hour
Once again, happy hour coincides with a home O's game, so we have to move off the beaten path. This time though we don't have to go too far, just around the corner to the Harbor Way Inn. For those that haven't been there, it's on the south side of Pratt St., just east of MLK. This month's happy hour will be Friday July 1st. It's a great way to kick off the holiday weekend!

City Smart Safety Tip-Handling Panhandlers
Panhandling between sunset and sunrise is illegal in Baltimore, so if you are approached by a panhandler during this time, you should notify the police or a Downtown Partnership Public Safety Guide. The one exception-a person may sit or stand with a sign or other passive ways to solicit donations. If you do want to help out those in need, rather than offering them your spare change, try directing them and your generosity to local organizations designed to help. Visit http://www.godowntownbaltimore.com/ or call 410.244.1030 for more information.
