July 2003 Ridgely's Record
Community Meeting
There will be a community meeting at Camden Pub on July 2 starting at
7:00 pm. It will feature Keiffer Mitchell who is running for City Council
- District 11. This is your chance to listen to his platform and ask him
direct questions. After the question and answer session, the board has
topics to discuss such as the Babe Ruth party, the free Jazz concert,
the Bromo Seltzer building, and other items.
Jazz Concert in Conway Park - July 28
The Baltimore City Big Band will present a free jazz concert in Conway
Park on Monday, July 28 at 8 p.m. Everyone is urged to bring a chair or
blanket and a picnic basket, sit out under the stars and listen to some
great music. This concert is part of the City's Summer Concert series,
and it is a first for Ridgely's Delight. If we get a large turnout this
could become an annual event, so spread the word and invite family and
friends from other neighborhoods. Call Brian at 410-752-8746 if you would
like to help publicize the concert.
Barre Circle Candidate's Night
The Barre Circle Association members have taken the lead to organize a
panel discussion with announced candidates for our new 11th district on
July 28, starting at 6:30 p.m. at Porters Coffee House, 771 Washington
Blvd, second floor. All nearby neighbors are invited to hear the candidates
and ask questions.
Refreshments and light fare will be provided after the discussion. Thanks
to the recent referendum vote to reorganize the city council into single
member districts, the citizens of Baltimore have a rare opportunity to
establish a new form of city council. Know your candidates and make your
vote count.
Barbeque Burglar
It's been a while since our last nuisance burglar and yippie skippy, we
got a new one: black male, trim build, probably in his 20s, 160-170 lbs.,
5'9", some facial hair, shorts and tan work boots. He's been futzing
around yards on the south-side of Ridgely's and he's made off with a grill
which some of our neighbors retrieved. Contact: newsletter@ridgelysdelight.org
Please call 911 if you see a crime being committed.
Parking Update
New parking permits take effect July 1. If you registered at Camden Pub
in May and didn't pick up your permit at the Pub in June, you must go
to the city parking office. For more information on parking permit procedures
Money Management Workshop
July 2, 6:30 - 7:00 pm. Second floor of Camden Pub before the community
meeting. Topics will include:
Structured savings, investments, and insurance
Saving taxes today while providing dollars for you future
The impact of inflation and how to make it work for you
Affordable ways of investing
Fireworks at 12:30 am?
Were you awakened late on Friday, June 13 by fireworks at the stadium?
The community president is looking into this issue. Apparently, there
is already a law against noise at night above a certain decibel level.
In the meantime, you can voice your opposition to fireworks after midnight
by contacting Roger Hayden (410-547-6204) of the Baltimore Orioles.
Conway Park Poop-a-thon
Yo, dog folks, it's time to scrub down Conway park. There's going to be
a jazz concert there at the end of the month, and it's important that
we provide a clean and groovy place for people to sit and enjoy the show.
Bring extra bags, purge extra poop. Let's see who can collect the most.
Burgundy Street Lot Makeover: Victory
Thank you to all the people who invested their time and energy to put
the Burgundy street parking lot back together with beautiful trees and
lovely mulch. A special thanks to Mark James who wrote the grant, planned
the work, and broke a sweat getting the job done.
Ridgely's Delight Garden
The Ridgely's Delight garden located at the intersection of Washington
Blvd and MLK blvd is turning into a success. Every Saturday between 8:00
and 10:00 people come by and pick up trash, pull weeds and trim those
bushes. This just sort of happened. It wasn't planne d!
Play Ball!
WE DID IT! The community received a grant for the annual community Babe
Ruth party. For a mere $7.00, you will get entrance to the museum, all
you can eat and drink, a ticket to Camden Yards, and door prizes. Kids
will get souvenirs at the game, and you can meet your neighbors at an
exciting event. Mark your calendar for September 6th at 5:00 pm. Tickets
must be purchased before August 8th. To purchase a ticket, contact Brian
Dale at 410-752-8746. Tickets will also be on sale at this month's community-sanctioned
meeting.
Every Monday Morning
Looking for company and coffee before work? We've started an impromptu
gathering of neighbors every Monday at the new coffeehouse in Pigtown.
Come wake up with us starting at 8 a.m. at Porters Coffeehouse at 771
Washington Blvd.
Dedication to Cool Breeze
Thank you to all the family and friends who made the sign dedication a
success. A special thank you to Patricia Harris who filled in for her
husband at the last minute and gave the dedication speech.
