Ridgely's Record
May, 2003
Community Meeting
There will be a public community meeting at Camden Pub on May 7th starting
at 7:00. It will feature two public presentations about very important
projects in Ridgely's Delight. The first is a courtesy presentation and
will feature Mark Shapiro and his revised plans for the Lions Club Building.
Mark has exclusive negotiating rights with the city and is kind enough
to give us an update on his project. The second presentation addresses
the future of what is referred to as "the Fremont lot" or the
empty lot/garden on the 200 block of Fremont street. Members in good standing
will have a chance to vote on this proposal. Additionally, a representative
from the city will be present to answer any questions. Everyone is encouraged
to attend, participate and discuss. Finally, there will also be a chance
to volunteer to work on a project documenting the history of Ridgely's
Delight. The meeting is a community-sanctioned event.
LaCrosse the Nation
The fastest game on foot is coming to our neighborhood. The NCAA LaCrosse
tournament is coming to Ravens Stadium on Memorial Day weekend (5/24 –5/26).
This is great for the city of Baltimore since alumni, students and family
from Georgia to Maine will descend on Baltimore with a checkbook in hand.
However, parking is a potential problem with new and unfamiliar fans.
If you see somebody illegally parking during a stadium event, it is OK
to politely inform them about potential tickets and towing.

Play Ball!

members have applied for a grant to subsidize the cost and make the party
larger and less expensive than ever before. The price of a ticket will
include admittance to the museum, all you can eat and drink, a ticket
to the baseball game that evening, door prizes and a great evening with
your neighbors and possibly more if the grant is awarded. Students: tickets
must be purchased before August 8th. If you think you might want to attend,
but you won't be here for the summer, then please contact Paul Harris
at pharris@ridgelysdelight.org
to make arrangements to purchase a ticket.
Ridgely’s Delight Garden
A community board member applied for a grant and was awarded money to
put together two small gardens within Ridgley's Delight. If you are interested
in a few hours of rewarding work, please contact Paul Harris at 410-837-6321
or president@ridgleysdelight.org.
Meeting with the Stadium Authority
There was a meeting with the Stadium Authority, city officials and surrounding
community leaders to address quality of life issues in and around Camden
Yards. The agenda covered noise, parking, public intoxication and indecent
exposure and the current stadium schedule. Here are some hot points…
Regarding Noise:
- Since the games are not sold out, the PA system bounces off the empty
seats and it appears to be louder. The stadium authority is going to
experiment with turning the sound down near the beginning and end of
the game. In the past, when the games were sold out, this was not an
issue because people absorb sound.
- Noisy vacuums that keep us up after the game has let out, have been
updated with fancy new mufflers. Can you tell?
Regarding Parking:
There will be another meeting soon to address parking issues with respect
to non sporting events or festivals.
