Ridgely's Record
April 2005

Community Meeting
The is no community meeting for March but there will be a board meeting Wed., Apr. 6 at 7pm, upstairs at Camden Pub. All who live and/or work in the neighborhood are welcome. Contact president@ridgelysdelight.org if you have questions for the board.

Play Ball!
Monday Apr. 4 is the season home opener for the O's. The bars open around noon, and the excitement runs all day (game is 3:30). WJZ-13 will be broadcasting from the Pooch from about 5:00 to 8:00 a.m. Be sure to stop by during the broadcast to show the rest of the metropolitan area what a great neighborhood we have. You won't want to miss the new drinks the cafe will introduce in honor of our local heroes: chocolate/orange latte (black and orange for the O’s) and Babe(y) Ruth Latte.

Parking note: as baseball season begins,
parking rules go into full effect. Those without an area 5 permit or visitor permit will be towed.

MLK-Wash. Blvd Garden Annual Clean-up
Now's your chance to beautify the entrance to our community, get your hands
dirty and go to an Orioles game! On Sat. April 2, from 9 to noon, residents
will be working on the garden at the corner of MLK and Wash. Blvd. (Rain
date: Sun. Apr. 3) Afterwards, a pair of May 10 tickets to the Orioles will
go to one lucky helper. Mulch will be delivered, and a dumpster has been
requested for community use. Sometimes dumpsters never show up, so please
check before you make plans to use it. If you want to bring rakes, shovels, etc. please write your name on them to avoid confusion. Contact Paul at
410-837-6321 or pwharris12@comcast.net for more info.

Annual Mayor's Spring Sweep
On hiatus from music, the Mayor focuses on clean-up just in time for the
big Spring Sweep. Join the fun, meet at the Mobil station at 9:30 on Sat.
April 23. Tools, bags and gloves will be provided. We have requested a dumpster
for the corner of Portland and Fremont, but as with the 2nd, this may or
may not occur. Do not dump garbage assuming the dumpster will eventually
show. The cleanup is a community-sanctioned event.

Good Neighbor Trash Tips
The second of a four part series...Tips for regular trash
Regular trash is collected Tues. & Fri., not on holidays. Trash should be
in cans, and improperly packed items will be left. Trash goes out no
earlier than one night before pickup, and cans should be removed that day
following collection. Building materials and tree cuttings are not picked
up. For more info visit: www.baltimorecity.gov/services/.

Ridgely's in the News
Ridgely's own Dimensional Productions, a model-making co. (Penn & Melvin)
was featured in American Heritage magazine as the co. selected to restore
the original model from which the World Trade Center was built. To read the
article, click here.

Just in Time - Historic District Tax Credits
The city and state both offer tax credits for money spent on renovations to
properties in an historic district like Ridgely's. To find out more visit
the Residents' section at www.ridgelysdelight.org.

Hoops for Good Cause
On Sat. Apr. 14, at 5pm, UofMD physical therapy students are hosting a
charity basketball game featuring the MD Ravens wheelchair team vs. UofMD
students. Â $2 donation is requested at the door. The goal is to promote
disability awareness within the community and raise funds for physical
therapy research. The game is at the Leadership Through Athletics gym in
Lansdown (2900 Hammonds Ferry Rd.)

Craft nights at the Pooch
No longer for only the knitting afficionados, come share your skills in all
crafty pursuits. Craft nights this month will be Tues. Apr. 12 and 26.

Wear the Neighborhood Name on Your Sweatshirt
You don't have to be the president of the Ridgely's Delight Association to get the neighborhood's name on your sweatshirt, t-shirt or knickers. You can also get a Ridgely'sDelight totebag or clothes for your dog. When you order through ridgelysdelight.org, part of the proceeds will go to the community association.
