Ridgely's Record
January 2005
Community Meeting
There is no community meeting this month. Meetings will resume in February,
usually on the first Wednesday evening of each month. Visit the Ridgely's
website for time and location. Please contact president@ridgelysdelight.org
if you have a topic for the agenda.
Gunman Caught
The armed robber described in the flier circulated last month by the
University of Maryland has been captured. Thanks to an alert neighborhood
resident, who recognized the man from the description in the flier and
reported the siting to the police, the suspect was apprehended and identified
by the victims. This situation shows how important it is for all neighbors
to be vigilant.
Gracias! Merci! Many Thanks!
Special thanks to Sliders for hosting our neighborhood holiday party and
to Ras Doobie de Chef (213 Penn St.) for donating the delicious platter
of jerk chicken. For those who missed the party or those who want to relive
the finer moments, check out the photos.
Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Baltimore honors the great American, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Monday
January 17th with a Celebration Parade. The parade begins on the corner
of Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. and Eutaw St., travels south on Martin
Luther King, Jr. Blvd., and ends between Baltimore St and Washington Ave.
Happy Birthday, Babe!
Celebrate the once local legend, the Bambino, on his birthday February
6th. What better reason to visit the Babe Ruth Birhplace and Museum right
here in our own backyard at 216 Emory Street, either for a return visit
or for the first time? The museum is open daily from 10am to 4pm (winter
hours). Call 410-727-1539 for more information.
Speaking of Birthdays
Our very own Ras Doobie de Chef (213 Penn St.) will be celebrating its
fifth birthday next month on Sunday, February 5th. Stay tuned for more
information about the upcoming festivities!
Game Night at Cappoochino Café
Test your artistic skills at a friendly (or fiercly competitive-yet to
be determined) game of Pictionary as a new neighborhood institution continues
Sunday, January 9th at 6:00pm.
Join Citizens on Patrol
Help make Ridgley's Delight safer--join Citizens on Patrol (COP). A training
session is scheduled for Wednesday, January 13th from 7:00pm to 10:00pm,
upstairs at Sliders. Call Paul at 410-837-6321 to learn more and to check
on space available for this next training.
First Friday Happy Hour
For those new to the neighborhood, or simply unaware, a neighborhood happy
hour on the first Friday is a Ridgely's tradition. This month, we'll meet
at Slider's on Jan. 7th. See you there!
Have a ball
Of yarn, that is! Knitting Nights at Cappoochino Café are every
other Tuesday beginning around 7 p.m. starting January 4. Just bring needles
and yarn. There are free, lessons for beginners. Please note the day change.
From the Desk of the Social Director
On Saturday, January 8th, is what just may be the beginning of a new Ridgely's
tradition, bringing together two fantastic Baltimore communities. It's
the Second Saturday happy hour, starting around 3:00pm at Cross Street
Market in Federal Hill (Located on Cross Street, between Light and Charles
Streets). Meet at the market and hang out with your neighbors.
City Smart Safety Tip
Let's be safe this Holiday season. Remember to be aware of your surroundings
and try not to walk alone. Don't let criminals take advantage of citizens
carrying holiday gifts. If somebody suspicious approaches you and you
feel threatened, yell at the top of your lungs- FIRE - HELP - AHHHHH!
