Ridgely's Record
January 2004
Board Meeting
There will be no community meeting this month. However, there will be
a board meeting at the Camden Pub on Wednesday, January 7 at 7:00 p.m.
Board meetings are open to the public.
There will be a community meeting in February. We are working on a special
guest who will discuss some local issues related to our neighborhood.
Look for details in next month's issue of the Record.
Holiday Party a Success
Thanks to Sliders Bar and Grille for hosting a wonderful holiday party
last month. We had a great turnout, which included a lot of new faces,
some local politicians and other friends of the neighborhood. We hope
to see everyone at next year's party.
Strategic Plan
December's board meeting marked the beginning of the new board's term
of office. The group's first ambitious endeavor is to form a strategic
plan for the neighborhood. The purpose of the plan is to determine the
neighborhood's priorities as well as to help us work more effectively
with the City and the organizations in our area. The strategic planning
committee, which was formed at the meeting, will ask community residents,
property owners and businesses as well as surrounding institutions like
the stadiums and University of Maryland for input. The committee will
report its progress in future issues of the Record and at community meetings.

survey.
City-Smart Safety Tip
If you got a new computer or other pricey electronic equipment this holiday
season, don't publicize it to potential burglars by leaving the box out
with your trash. Cut up the box and throw the pieces in a dark colored
trash bag.
Renovating?
If you're thinking about additions or renovations to your home, please
call Paul, our CHAP representative at
410-234-1350. You can also email him: chap@ridgelysdelight.org. Get it
right the first time by getting approval. Learn the rules that apply to
our historic neighborhood.
Carolyn's Café Closing (Just for Awhile)
Jamaican restaurant Carolyn's Café on Penn Street reports that
is closing for a winter break. They will re-open on January 20. Don't
miss their fourth bearthday celebration (that's birthday for those who
aren't from the islands). The event will take place on Sunday, February
1, beginning at noon.
New Parking Pass Procedures
The City has established a new procedure for obtaining residential parking
passes. They ask that those interested now go online and download an application
before going to their office. You can find the link by visiting the Residents'
section of www.ridgelysdelight.org. We will publish more information about
the parking sticker procedure as we approach our annual sign-up in the
spring.
Deliverypeople Needed
Can you spare a few minutes a month to help keep your neighbors informed
about important neighborhood issues? We need volunteers to distribute
the Ridgely's Record. Carriers must deliver papers before the first of
every month or notify the chief distributor that they are unable to fulfill
their commitment for a given month. Volunteers receive their copies through
their mailslot. If you can distribute to your street every month or want
to volunteer as a backup, please contact Paul at 410-837-6321 or pharris@ridgelysdelight.org.
Snow Reminder
You are required by law to shovel the sidewalk in front of your property,
even if you are a tenant. It's also a considerate to your neighbors and
can help you avoid a lawsuit. The job will be a lot easier if you shovel
right after the snow ends rather than later when it freezes. If you are
not inclined to do the work yourself, look for one of the ambitious folks
walking through the neighborhood with a shovel and pay him or her a few
bucks to do the job.
Leaf Collection 2003
Baltimore city leaf collection began on Thursday, October 2, 2003. City
sanitation crews will pick up bagged leaves on the second trash collection
day for Baltimore city residents (Friday for Ridgely's Residents). Just
put out securely bagged leaves with your regular trash on Friday mornings.
These collections will continue through January 31, 2004. In 2002, citizens
helped the city recycle 10,250 tons of leaves! These leaves were mulched
and given back to communities for free use in parks and community gardens.
